embroidery

Three more embroidered towels for the pile.

The funny thing is...
We don't generally dry dishes.
We let them air dry overnight.

I did sell two of my embroidered towels this weekend
at the "Prairie Preservationist".

They give my hands something to do.

feverish

Take 2 aspirins and keep sewing!

I have pouch fever!
I really enjoy making these...
from start to finish.

The three above are family photos.
They would make a great personalized gift.

The backs and linings are super cute too.

It's Friday!
Have a great weekend.

in love

Are you in love with vintage like I am?
I've been sewing bibs for the last two days...
and loving these fabric choices.

Is there anyone that didn't grow up reading Dick and Jane?
I paid a premium for this fat quarter of Dick and Jane.

My sister is so in love with vintage
that she is opening a vintage shop
where I will be selling these bibs.

"Where The Wild Things Are" was written in 1963.

The granddaughters and I read Dr. Seuss this weekend.
We bought our kids this Dr. Seuss book when they graduated from college!

I loved this old piece of football flannel I acquired in a rummage box.

Does this cherry bib remind you of Mom's old tablecloth?

Snoopy has been entertaining us since 1950.

We were fortunate that Mr. b's mother never threw anything out,
this is his old teddy bear.
Most of these bibs were lined with an old chenille bedspread of hers.

Check out the Prairie Preservationist on facebook.

tit-for-tat

Mr. b just returned from a golf trip or as I call it...
"Finding his mojo"
in Minnesota.

A golf course is a beautiful place
to get your mojo back don't you think?

I sent a camera with him.
So glad I did...great shots.

While he was golfing
I was on a fun shopping trip.

Or as I call it...tit-for-tat

granddaughters

We always have a crazy time
when these two come for a visit.

I try to enjoy every minute...

because I know how fast children grow up.

Spy Dogs

Two of our granddaughters have been here the last four days...
which equals one very worn out grandma.
It's a good kind of worn out.
It always makes me wonder how I did it full-time with our kids?

Today we started writing a book called
"Spy Dogs"

Cecelia and Tressa are the authors
and I guess I am the illustrator.

Spy dogs Jaguar and Gold woke up this morning
 to the smell of smoke
and think it is their duty to find the fire and put it out.
They climbed the tree in the front yard to see if they could spot any smoke.

I sure hope they have a driver's license to drive grandpa's truck.

I will let you know if our fox and hound find that fire...

Up up and away...

Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon

We could float among the stars together, you and I
For we can fly we can fly

The world's a nicer place in my beautiful balloon

We can sing a song and sail along the silver sky

We'll find a cloud to hide us
We'll keep the moon beside us

Love is waiting there in my beautiful balloon

If you'll hold my hand we'll chase your dream across the sky...

Didn't they have great songs in the 60's?
Definitely my favorite era for music.

Mr. b and I had an opportunity to watch
these hot air balloons go up last week.

They are huge on the ground.

I have to say I would never go up in one.

butter

I had to admire grandma's old butter churn
while I sewed a block for my Farm Girl Vintage quilt.

She's an old beauty alright.
And I bet grandma didn't have to lift weights
to firm up her arms either.
She just made butter.

As you drove down country roads in the 1930's...
I'm sure you would see farm women  milking cows,
feeding chickens and gardening.

country crossroads block

Sewing blocks for this quilt sure gets me daydreaming.

Too Fussy!

HOLY COW!
Why didn't I think of this?

I am like Goldilocks
when it comes to washcloths.

I don't like them too big...
or too small.

I don't like thick hemmed edges
or braided edges!

I cut these from an old towel that wasn't just right for me...
yes, I'm fussy about bath towels too.
This towel was a bit too thin and small.
So I cut it into washcloths and serged the edges.

PERFECT! Thanks Pinterest

brothers

After I had the lid on the last jar of relish yesterday
and I was enjoying the pop of the seal...

I played around with this zipper pouch.

I love the look of old pictures on fabric.
I don't do enough of it to be really good at it.
Although this pouch turned out very cute!

I lined it with an old flannel shirt
and used denim on the back.

It's definitely one of my favorite photos.
They are Mr. b's uncles, stepdad and father.
 All brothers.

You will be seeing more of this type of
photo transferring from me in the future.
I am one determined woman.

kitchen salsa

Do you salsa in your kitchen?

Canning season began for me yesterday with salsa.
17 pints to share...
17 more when the tomatoes are ripe enough.

I purchase all my fresh produce from our local hudderite colony.
These were some busy ladies when I got there.
I can't describe the wonderful smell coming out of their kitchen.

Today I am doing a double batch of our favorite relish.
Would you believe this recipe came from an uncle that made it?
Gotta love a man that cans.

The fresh vegetables need to sit for three hours
before I add the brine and put in jars.
Enough time to wash and sterilize my jars and lids...
and post this blog.
I am a huge multi-tasker and can never figure out
why everyone can't do three things at once?

I peeled too many cucumbers
so I will make a gallon of refrigerator pickles.

Nothing goes to waste in this kitchen!
