everyday is a holiday

Happy National Coffee Day.
Did you go to work? I didn't...
cuz I'm retired silly!
Which sorta means everyday is some kind of holiday.

I love these small cuts of nautical fabric
 I purchased in Belfast, Maine.

If you are thinking that Irish immigrants named this town...
you would be right.

Unless you are Native American...
we would be well to remember
that all of our ancestors were immigrants.

Dakota Kids

bibs...burps...and booties

labeled and ready for sale.

Our shop motto:
Dakota Kids...keeping babies cute!

It feels good to be back
and in my little sewing sweatshop.

Mother's Flower Garden

My mother's love of flowers started at an early age...
her parents ran a flower shop and greenhouse.

As she spends the last years of her life in an assisted living center
my sisters and I try to provide her with embroidery projects to do
and fresh flowers on her nightstand.

Fresh flowers are challenging when winter is upon us.

Vermont

We were only mildly disappointed that the leaves
weren't in full color while we were in Vermont...

It would be a beautiful state to visit any time of the year.

fish

The first thing I did after our trip to the Atlantic Ocean
was dig out my recipe for clam chowder...

Mr. b isn't as big a fan of fish
(or as I call it the finer things in life)
but he will have to bear with me
for a few weeks at least.

We are back...

We enjoyed the last Eight days
in Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire!

If you are thinking it was all about the local fare...
you could be right!

Blueberries and lobster in Maine...
pancakes with local maple syrup in Vermont...
crab cakes, shrimp rolls, lobster bisque, lobster rolls, lobster pizza, blueberry ice cream,
clam chowder...on and on.

And of course there was cake by the ocean.

For Lynne...

...a Saturday critter.

Silly deers...
always running away from us
when all we want to do is admire them greatly.

autumn sights

Came across the kit for this star
in my sewing room the other day...
so I just sat down and put it together.

Don't you just love surprises?

Sally

Sally was looking for her toys.
She could not find the cars or the boats or the dolls.
She looked everywhere in the room.
She looked under things, and she looked behind things.

"Come, Bella," said Delainee.
"I want to go for a walk.
We will walk and walk."
Away went Delainee, and away went her black puppy.
They walked, and they walked, and they walked.

back to school

By now all the kiddies should be back in their desks...
or will be tomorrow.

I just had to make pencil pouches
out of these fun Japanese prints for the occasion.

I may have to find more of the typewriter print...love it!

Birdie of course could care less
that one of the prints is of cats.

produce

The first part of September means
tomatoes at every meal.

It's hard to grow tomatoes in our neighborhood...
we have a  herbicidal neighbor.

I depend on our Hutterite friends to keep me
in fresh produce this time of year.
And they do a great job!

They were canning tomatoes when we stopped by.

By the way...
my favorite month of the year.
