GONE FISHN'

New bibs for the shop...

I found the patterns in an old
quilt magazine that was given to me.
It's always fun trying out a new pattern.

of their lives without knowing
that it is not fish they are after."

black and white wednesday

I heard a Christmas tune the other day...
then I looked at the calendar!

It's no laughing matter...
Christmas is just around the corner.

And for those of us that enjoy making
a few handmade goodies for under the tree,
well... it's time to get busy!

I'm excited to finally give the granddaughters
the American Girl dolls I purchased a couple years ago
along with all the handmade clothes I have been making for the dolls.

What does the fox say?

This pacifier holder is new in our Dakota Kids etsy shop.

(Note to self...get a button for our kids shop installed on my blog.)

You simply slip the ribbon loop through your pacifier
and slide the lovey blanket through ribbon loop creating a slip knot.

Sewing on minky fabric is pretty new to me.
I learned to change my needle and thread for this type of fabric.

Have you been enjoying fresh off the tree apples?
These cinnamon apple muffins were delicious
with a bowl of my homemade bean and ham soup.
I found the recipe easy enough...online.

views

STOP the car!

This was such a pretty view...
I just had to get a picture.
(No editing needed.)

Honestly,
we need a bumper sticker that reads...

"This vehicle stops for blog pictures."

Have a fun fall-ish weekend!

The larder

We stopped at the local hudderite colony this week
 to purchase fresh produce.
Cabbage, tomatoes, peas, corn, garlic, onions,
 squash, potatoes, apples, and eggs.

I can never resist taking a peek inside their pantry.
All their jars lined up perfectly. Picture perfect.
All that hard work!

I wish my winter larder was this full and looked this good.

Pheasant 1, Hunter 0

Today called for a country drive...
and a little photo hunt to amuse myself and my readers.

It was the opening weekend for pheasant hunting here.

hats

If you are wearing a hat today...

You may want to hang on to it.

It's windy!

I saw the cutest baby hats in a shop this weekend...

and I've been knitting them every since.

Oops...this lavender hat turned out small enough for dolly.
oh well, dolly needs a hat too.

October

It's seems to have been a very good year for pumpkins and gourds...
they are everywhere and there are oodles of them!

I don't begrudge the farmer his earnings...
but if they were just a bit cheaper I would go home with a truck load of them!

Autumn art don't you think?

Of all the seasons, autumn offers the most to man and requires the least of him.
 ~Hal Borland

 October’s the month
When the smallest breeze
Gives us a shower
Of autumn leaves.
Bonfires and pumpkins,
Leaves sailing down —
October is red
And golden and brown.
~Author Unknown

And now I think the end of this post
calls for a cup of apple cider.

All in a row...

I saw this project online last Halloween and decided to try them...
well a year later that is.

Handmade wooden toys...
are the best!

My hand at painting such little pieces isn't as steady as it used to be.
Yes, I had a painting stage too...
I took tole painting lessons
and even managed to sell a few pieces of it.

Like little soldiers all lined up...

I hope the granddaughters enjoy playing with them.

60!

Happy 60th Birthday
to my brother Dave today!

I thought he might get a kick out of this birthday postcard
sent to our grandmother in the year 1911.

43 years before he was born.
Grandma was turning 14
when she received this penny postcard.

Live it up today bro...

With Love,

My Popeye

Mr. b and I celebrated 42 years together last week on the 23rd.
Well...not exactly together
as I was in North Dakota and he in South Dakota.
I think it might have been our first anniversary spent apart in all of this time?

He didn't forget it and
boy! was I surprised to receive a beautiful
 bouquet of flowers from him.

"A flower cannot blossom without sunshine,
a man cannot live without love."

You could say that if I were Olive Oyl...

He would be my Popeye!
