Day Two

Rose likes denim a lot...

...and flannel.
She also has a favorite pillow case, books and tea set.
Rose loves anything vintage.

camping

It's an American Girl doll week here...

I promised Willa and Mae some new summer outfits.

This is Rose modeling the first of the clothes.

They got a new camper and want to look spiffy

when they take it out for the first time.

Rose is hoping they will take her along sometime.

Lucky dolls.

John Philip Sousa

We spent last week camping in my first hometown.

Revisiting the old haunts and recalling memories

is something I love to do.

This old bandshell was erected in 1963

and was right behind our camper.

We caught a concert the night before we left.

Talk about a dying event...we set up our lawnchairs

and really enjoyed an evening in the park.

winners and losers sometimes are one and the same

There is a mixture of emotions on the faces of these soccer players.
Let me explain...

This team was split in half for the tournament they played in.
Four players were picked up to make the numbers work...
two of those were our granddaughters.
Fortunately or unfortunately both teams (of the same team) made it to the championship game
and the split team ended up playing each other.
Are you following me here?
The game ended in a tie and a kick off determined the winners.
Parents told them they were all winners but only one of the teams went home with tropheys.
I guess you have to learn early that life isn't always fair.

Postcard Friday

Look closely...

can you see the presidents framed by the tunnel?

You have to take your pictures fast as there were hundreds

of other cars on the roads this day.

spring chicken

I found this pattern for a patchwork stationary kit on Pinterest.
It was perfect for the mini charm squares in Spring Chicken
I received from daughter knit and pearl.

It was a quick sewing project with the squares all precut.
Did you see that little snap pocket? So cute.

Wild life along the way

We drove the Needles Highway today and encountered a traffic jam
leading into one of the many tunnels we drove through.

This mountain goat and her little one were in a tunnel just hanging around

while dozens of vehicles waited for them to move on.

A little later we encountered these studly long horn sheep all chasing the same female.

I think she dropped her handkerchief.

Black Hills

We are enjoying the beautiful Black Hills

of South Dakota for a week.

We love camping out here...

the scenery never gets old.

puddle duck

For some reason I was feeling a duck the other day.

I don't know why because we haven't had any rain here for weeks.

They are an easy project.
I used a stray quilt square for one of the dresses.

Bam

Grab a fly swatter or a can of Raid...

I've been making bugs in my little sewing sweatshop.

You know...because there aren't enough bugs in my life this time of year.
Or maybe because it was a free pattern?

Pretty silly aren't they?
The granddaughters just have to put up with me.

Betty

When we cook chicken breasts for dinner

I always have Mr. b throw a couple extras on the smoker for recipes like this.

Smoked Chicken Fettuccine with homemade egg noodles.

When we come back from long camping trips I go into my

Betty Crocker split personality and can't get enough cooking and sewing.

Uncle Sam and pie

Yesterday was the perfect day for a little red, white and blue project

while my rhubarb pie baked in the oven.
