rabbits

I worked up a little energy this morning
to return to my little sewing sweatshop.
This cold has been one for the books.

Easter is early this year
and I'm always running a little behind.

I saw these drawstring project bags on Pinterest and Etsy
and have been wanting to make myself one.

Of course I needed to use bunny fabric.

Dakota Man cut out that little barn wood rabbit for me.

kuchen

I was feeling a little Deutsche this morning
when I made this  recipe for apfelkuchen.

It called for a spring form pan but I know my
German grandmother did not have one of these in her kitchen.

She made the best kuchen and taught me how.
Sometime I will share that with you.

But meanwhile...
this German apple cake was much easier and quicker to make.
I ran into the recipe for it on pinterest.

nothing but clouds

We've had too many cloudy days here the past week and
I am under the weather with a nasty cold.
I'm starting to feel more sorry for the guy putting up with me.
 Some sunshine would be welcome.

I dropped my feed dog for a couple more fabric squares.

Mr. b made the cute little houses.

sisters

This little girl likes to do everything her big sister does...

When her big sister went down the two steps on her stomach...
this one dived right in!
Only on her nose.

St. Patrick's Day

I'm not Irish but I do love potatoes and cabbage,
fisherman sweaters and Celtic music.
For me St Patrick's Day is always an excuse
to experiment with a few new Irish recipes.

This Irish Guinness brown bread is excellent.
I got the recipe from The Barefoot Contessa online.

We had it for our supper with this corned beef and cabbage.

In case I find the pot at the end of the rainbow today
I made myself a new zipper pouch to hold a few of those coins.

Knitting dishrags is a mindless task.
And who cares if your dishrag has a few mistakes in it right?

When I think Irish I think of the movie The Titanic
so maybe tonight I will watch it for the umpteenth time.

Titanic's last port of call was Cobh, County Cork, Ireland.

Friday post card

Are you celebrating St. Patrick's Day tomorrow with a Guinness?
It is touted as "good for you."
I don't like the taste of beer alone but I love to cook with it.

Putting the blame on

Blame it on winter...
that I have been craving me some bright colors.

Blame it on winter...
that I thought I needed some new fabrics in my little sewing sweatshop
(when I really don't.)

Blame it on winter...
that I picked out fabric that is far from anything I've ever bought before.

Blame it on winter...
that I fell in love with this fabric line
mostly because the designer is called Tula Pink.

dishrags

We are a family of knitters
and I think all of us learned to knit by knitting dishrags.

The craziest thing about us is we love gifting them to each other.
Many of these were gifts
and I love receiving anything that I didn't make myself.

Aren't they pretty?

Okay, now I need to go knit a dishrag to share.

heartspun

I spent the last couple of weeks working on these mini quilts.
They involved a lot of scraps, cutting and piecing.

I call the colors I used jewel colors.
I think all quilts should involve bits and pieces of what you have on hand...
like the ones grandma used to make on her old Singer.

I love how these log cabin squares line up.

I have three vintage sewing machines that will be hard to part with someday.

for the birds

Bird nesting boxes by Dakota Man

Mr. b and I enjoy all the birds that come to our feeders.
This year we added a heated water dish for them.
We have the perfect protected patio area for birds
and large windows (kitchen and dining room) to view all of it.
I hope we aren't becoming crazy bird people...
you know like crazy cat people.

He made these out of cedar.
They will need to be hung in an area more secluded than our patio
where predators can't get to them.

I guess I just needed a change of pace
when I sat down and made these.

Snow day

Observations:

It has been  blizzarding here all day.
Is blizzarding a word?

Kids have it made.
Saturday I took the granddaughters to a trampoline park.
What a fun place!

I have a new to me project on the table.
More on this later I hope.

It's March!

Dakota Man whipped this up in his workshop this week.

I wonder what he was thinking about?
