quilts

I finished up my "Prairie Preservationist" quilt
and it's a beauty in all of it's scrappyness.
The fabrics were sold at one time
in my sister's shop "The Prairie Preservationist".
Don't you just love the name
and idea of being a prairie preservationist?

This garlic herb bubble loaf deserves a mention.
I stumbled across the recipe on Pinterest
and whipped it up in my kitchen bakery.

It was delicious with last night's spaghetti.

a pair

When the quilt you've been working on
matches the painting he's been working on...

teacher

I decided to dig into my novelty fabric bin
to make a book bag for the teacher.

Thirty-two fun 5" squares.

Let's see...
what else did I do this weekend?
Binding on two quilts - honey oatmeal raisin cookies -
potato salad - macaroni salad - embroidery
I pretty much wore out a path between my kitchen
and little sewing sweatshop.

Friday post card

I'm guessing the year was 1941 or 1942...almost 80 years ago.
My mother is far left, middle row, looking sideways.
I always thought she looked like Anne Frank
with her long black curls.
Would you believe all five of her kids inherited her curls?

rice bag

I have been wanting to make a Japanese rice bag for some time.

A  modern take on the Japanese Komebukuro, a traditional pouch used in Japan to carry rice offerings to the temple during religious ceremonies, or to hold gifts destined for a close friend or relative. Komebukuro bags were hand sewn in a patchwork style using a mix of whatever fabrics were on hand, and closed with a cotton drawstring cord.

My sister needed a gift for her very talented daughter-in-law.
No pressure there right?
I hope she likes it and can use it.

Just as soon as I clear out a few older projects I will be making another one
as it was that fun to make.

picnic

Seems everyone is having a picnic today on the new tables
that Mr. b made this weekend.

embroidery

It sounds like we could have 45 more days of endless handwork.
I really don't mind...in fact I am rather enjoying my shut-in days so far.

My heart goes out to the people struggling during this time.
Trust me, it will make us all stronger in so many ways.

A new flour sack towel with a little dutch girl that I embroidered on it.

What's for dinner?

I was craving tuna today and remembered this old recipe
that I have been serving since our kids were...well...still kids.

It makes and cooks up really fast.

I was lucky enough to have cheddar cheese soup on hand
from my experiments finding the ultimate beer cheese soup recipe...
which hasn't happened yet.
I always have frozen vegetables in the freezer.
The can of biscuits was a lucky find but just in case
I was prepared to make homemade biscuits.

Even Mr. b likes it and he's not a big tuna fan like I am.

bone pick'n

It was a quiet Easter here.
It involved ham, cheesy potatoes and a corn casserole
with lots of netflix and amazon television.
And now I'm looking forward to some ham and bean soup.
I love a good soup bone don't you?

comfort

I don't know about you but the last few weeks
have been all about comfort while we quarantine here at home.

A handmade wash rag and bar of soap is comforting to me.
That and a large pot of vegetable soup simmering on the stove.

golden eggs

I made this apple cinnamon bread yesterday morning
before I learned that eggs were $5 a dozen in the grocery stores.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
One more excuse to get a couple of chickens?

klompen

Daughter knit and pearl is the fourth generation
in our family to do beautiful hand-stitching.

She gave me this sweet flour sack towel
that she had just finished stitching.
I like it so well I went on-line to find the pattern.

She always includes a surprise
on the opposite corner of the towel.
