good intentions

Would you believe all of these scrap projects
haven't even put a dent in my scrap basket.

I love sewing with red, white and blue fabric
Did you watch last night's debate?
It made me think of this saying...

"The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

We can legally light fireworks today.
I wish the granddaughters were closer...
it is better to act like a kid when you're around kids isn't it?
I don't know if Mr. b will ever outgrow fireworks.

scrunch is a strange word

I needed to change things up a little the last two days.

I get bored quickly.

These scrunchies were the perfect one-day project.

I have a lot of novelty prints in case you haven't noticed.

Tomorrow fireworks go on sale.
I have a love/hate affair with them.
But that's a long story...

yellow

We woke up to sunshine today
which put me in a yellow state of mind.

I could tell when I found myself reaching for mostly yellow scraps.

I had two lemons in the fridge that needed to be used.

I went for the easy lemon bars.

happy cows

Time for a new zip pouch...
one with a pocket.

I love this duck cloth I've been hoarding.
Yes, I'm a hoarder when it comes to fabric.

The lining is pretty cute too.

I like to point out "happy cows" to Mr. b when we are traveling...
the ones standing up to their udders in grass and sweet clover.
We spotted this happy cow in Wisconsin.
I bet all cows in Wisconsin are happy...
after all they make cheese right?

seasons

When we returned from our trip to Michigan
I was lucky enough to enjoy a day of lilacs
and two days of olive tree flowers.

I wasn't taking any chances with the rhubarb season
so I bought some at the grocery store.

I don't think I've ever had to pay for rhubarb.
Trust me...it was worth every penny.

These are 15-minute quilt squares.
A celebrity quilter wrote each square takes just 15 minutes a day...
so here's my three days worth.

There is only one way to get around on Mackinac Island...
which also produces a lot of fertilizer for the island.

foggy

Mr. b and I aren't generally procrastinators
but sometimes even we find ourselves in a fog...

I wanted what I call a wooden rug for our camper.
I came back with the idea from our last muddy camping trip.

We went to a lumberyard for supplies...
decided too expensive and we could order ready made for the same price.

Came back home to order to find they were too small.

Went back to lumberyard and still didn't feel the price was justified.

Finally we settled on a free pallet Mr. b already had...
he tore it apart and remade it to fit a small outdoor mat we have.

Isn't it great! and FREE!

You can order one right here.

hope

Do you recall hope chests?

Also referred to as a dowry chest or cedar chest.
They were used to store items like these embroidered towels
by unmarried women in anticipation of married life.

Wouldn't young brides laugh at that concept now?

I finished these while we were on the road camping.

patriotic

Gosh before we know it
it will be the Fourth of July.

While I was digging in my scrap fabric yesterday
I discovered a few patriotic pieces...
so I just went with it from there.

These can be used for mug rugs or hot pad holders.

WHAT? No Flowers!

Today I got our patio furniture out
which made me start to rethink my decision to not plant flowers.
They are a hassle when we want to go camping.
Mr. b usually sets up a sprinkle system on an automatic timer...
which is just one more thing to worry about while we are gone.
I will try to add color where I can.
Isn't this bird feeder the cutest?

Inside I am still working on my scrappy log cabin quilt.
I am finally starting to sew the squares together.

Have a great week!

smooth hands

A restaurant we ate at recently had a small jar
of hand scrub on the restroom counter.
Not being in a hurry...I used it and loved it.
I made this years ago and forgot how much I liked it.

Lemon Hand and Body Scrub
1 cup sea salt or Epsom salt
1/2 cup organic coconut oil
10 drops lemon essential oil

I had everything on hand to make mine
as Mr. b uses coconut oil
to make his fabulous popcorn.

the return

We are back from our Mackinac trip...

It seems summer arrived while we were gone.
 It feels good.
I almost missed the lilacs blooming!

We had a great trip.

bucket list

If you've never been to Mackinac Island...

You need to put it on your bucket list!

We have been in out of wifi the whole trip.
I haven't been able to edit photos so be ready to see more
of this fabulous place when we get home.
