Who can resist an after Christmas sale...
on flannel?
Not I as I bought yards and yards of it.

Christmas break

My boss always treats me to a long Christmas break...
a much needed break I might say.
And I always look forward to having the granddaughters
here for a few days during my break.
They love to draw and do letters and numbers.
They weren't here very long before they drew this picture of grandma.
There's no mistaking my curly hair and glasses
and they always know how glad I am to see them.
After they had been here a day or so this was their interpretation of grandma...
I would say they got me right on. haha

Christmas to remember.

Friday, December 20, 2013

Our Christmas begins very early tomorrow as we head up to North Dakota...
we must have decided it's not cold enough in South Dakota right?
Santa says the coast is clear and it will be easy sailing north.
We will return Tuesday...
and head east to our son's for Christmas Day.
This book will be on the granddaughter's reading list from Grandma.

We just love that naughty David!
Merry Christmas from Knit and Pearl.

under the Christmas tree

Someone in our family has really been enjoying der tannenbaum...
Pearl thinks it's a great place to hang out.
and nap.
“O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
wie treu sind deine Blätter!
Du grünst nicht nur zur Sommerzeit,
nein auch im Winter, wenn es schneit.”

Hot Mama

This weekend...
well Friday night to be exact...
we celebrated my mother's birthday.
Happy 83rd Mom!
She's slowing down some but is as spunky as ever.
I definitely get my "want to do it all" from her.
Saturday we did what every other crazy person seemed to be doing...
And guess what I brought home?
THREE more projects to get done before Christmas!

Sorry for the blurry pics...
no time to retake.

My sewing machine will not be getting anytime
to cool off this week.

We were admiring our granddaughter's nesting Matryoshkas dolls
their Russian aunt gave them...
when I remembered this fabric I had packed somewhere in my sewing cave.
HISTORY: Matryoshkas date from 1890.
Now I know what you're thinking...
these aren't really Russian dolls are they?
It's funny how the mind works.
Oh well, I got it out anyway and went to town on it.
Aren't those little shoes adorable?
This was an all day project only because I had so much trouble
squaring up the fabric for the receiving blanket.
The bottom of the shoes are sweet too.
ps. Our thermometer is above freezing today. We sent that nasty ol' weather
to the east coast where it will really be a big deal.
Snow and cold doesn't really faze us tough Midwesterners.
It's mainly just an inconvenience to find our gloves.

chicken little

Who doesn't like chickens right?
These little crocheted chicken ornaments are especially cute.
Remember these famous chickens?
Foghorn Leghorn.
Henny Penny.

The sky is falling!"
Do you know anyone like that?
Last night's meal...
We like having eggs for supper.
Do you say supper or dinner?
It's breakfast, dinner and supper here at our house.
I had to raid the granddaughter's craft box for the wiggly eyes.
Vintage looking wouldn't you say?
These chickens are great stash projects.

no brainer

I've been doing a little mindless knitting
while I watch all these great Christmas movies on television.
A love story and a cabin set in the snowy woods?
I think the main character needs one of my easy cowls.
Thick yarn, big needles and a two hour movie
is all one takes.

Christmas mouse

Not a creature was stirring...
I wonder why I torture myself knitting little critters...
and I am terrified of mice??
Alright...but December 26 you are gone or I'm setting a trap!

favorite friday

What's your favorite Christmas decoration?
The one you've had for years and years...
...and it just isn't Christmas until you've unpacked it?

spaghetti sauce?

Just for fun...
I whipped up this pair of potholders.
The way I abuse potholders?
These are far to cute to use in my kitchen.
I don't think they will look good with
spaghetti sauce on them.

arctic blast

The weatherman got that right...
arctic blast.
14 degrees as I type.
Who cares...baby it's cold outside.
It was a good day to stay indoors
and knit fussy little hats for the Christmas tree.
The oven is on with scalloped potatoes
 and squash for our supper.
Anything to generate a little extra heat right?
Don't go outdoors without your hat on.

The Bomb

I mean what else are sisters for?

warmer please

I'm shipping out the last of my Dakota Maid items today.
These girl's sized ear warmers are my newest project.
The headband is knit using super chunky yarn on large needles.
The flower is crocheted.

They are very cute on girls.
What a great gift.
I know two granddaughters that are getting one.
