Salem witches

Last month while on vacation
we ventured south from Maine to check out Salem, Massachusetts...
and the witch house.

The Jonathan Corwin House in Salem, known as The Witch House, was the home of Judge Jonathan Corwin (1640-1718) and is the only structure still standing in Salem
with direct ties to the Salem witch trials of 1692.

As a local magistrate and civic leader, Corwin was called upon to investigate the claims of diabolical activity
when a surge of witchcraft accusations arose in Salem Village and neighboring communities.

Corwin served on the Court which ultimately sent nineteen people to the gallows.
All nineteen refused to admit to witchcraft
 and steadfastly maintained their innocence.

The house is an example of 17th century New England architecture.

It is now a museum operated by the City of Salem.

We really enjoyed touring the house...
spooky indeed.

376 years old
It did feel a little haunted.

Must Do

A new bucket list for Fall--some practical, some just fun. . .:

I love all the Must Do lists for autumn I've been seeing on the internet.

And YES I made a loaf of pumpkin bread for the neighbor!

I am craving pumpkin pie for some reason?

the hunters

Pheasant hunting is an annual tradition.
It's  fresh air...
 wide open spaces...

it's spending time with family and friends...

...and it's sharing stories and good food
at the end of the day.

my soup kitchen

When the weather turns chilly
I make soup...
lots of soup!

Last night's menu
included creamy chicken and mushroom soup

Tonight's selection is
copycat Panera chicken and wild rice soup.

Tomorrow it may be
one-pot tomato and basil tortellini soup.

I enjoy making soup and I enjoy eating soup.

I also enjoy
taking pictures of flowers...
lots of flowers (in Vermont)
because they were everywhere you turned.

batter up

I'm calling this bag my
"Take me out to the ballgame" bag.

The fabric design resembles the Tim Holtz line...
I am a big fan of anything Tim Holtz.

There's a little inside pocket for your cellphone.

But dang...
baseball season is almost over.
Maybe I need to make a football bag soon?

Papa's Pumpkin Patch in Bismarck, ND...

What a fun place for Delainee and her cousin Harper
 to spend an afternoon.

Don't you wish fall could last forever?

crocktober*

I love any excuse to use my crock pot.

Mr. b and I went to an auction sale this last weekend
and I came home with a box of old spice tins.
Of course the spices in them are old and outdated...
and we all know how expensive spices have gotten.

I decided I could use them to make crock pot potpourri.

You don't need a recipe...
just throw in what you have.

*crocktober is not my word....but I love it.

Are you cutting lots of mums to enjoy indoors?

beggars

Apple season always turns me into a beggar...

Apples are plentiful this year here in South Dakota.

I started out with applesauce...
next up apple crisp and apple butter.
