sound off

Are you glad July is almost over?
Me too! It's been to hot and dry to enjoy summer...
although there has been a few things I loved about July.
All the fresh garden produce finally coming on.

Creamed onions and cucumbers from the Sall Farm garden...
so good.

All the peaches we can eat because a flat of peaches
is really to many for two of us.

Hundreds of straw bales everywhere you look
when you take a country drive.

Mr. b servicing my machines in the little sewing sweatshop.

But...here comes August.
It will be a very special month for our family again.

flowers and birds

New bags...
as opposed to old bags.

I love this scrappy quilted bag with its burlap base.

The lining is pretty too.

An elderly lady requested a small bag
to carry a cell phone in.
She told me she likes birds.

This bag is shabby chic with it's large roses
and leather base...

C’est une belle vie.

spicey

Mr. b bought a Traeger smoker.
We love grilling in the summer.

Our son introduced us to Traeger smoked meats last summer
and our son-in-law smoked a turkey a few weeks ago while we were there...
we were hooked.

It takes a lot of spice rubs
for all this smoking so I decided to make my own.

Cue: Penzeys Spices

Is it cheaper?
I read that it is but the verdict is still out.

                 14-Spice Dry Rub Mix
1/2 c dark brown sugar
1/4 c seasoned salt
1/4 c paprika
1/4 c smoked paprika
1 T garlic powder
2 tsp onion powder
1 T celery salt
2 T chili powder
2 T black pepper
1 T rubbed dried sage
1 tsp ground allspice
1 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp cayenne
1/4 tsp ground mace
1/8 tsp ground cloves

For use on chicken, beef, pork or fish.

some summertime

If you don't have air-conditioning today...

you might want to find a swimming hole.

Mr. b and I spent a lot of summer hours in this very same pond.
No complaints...it was a great place to cool down.

canning

Two days of screen printing =
18 flour sack towels

I still love this jar design.
It is time to get those canning jars out
for this season's garden vegetables.
Pick up a fun towel for the canner in your family...
he or she will love it!
My brother and brother-in-law have been canning for years.
Mr. b had a co-worker (male) that did all the canning in his family.
Way to go guys!

A new pheasant design for fall.

We only print on high quality extra large towels.

vacation

When the maps come out you know it's time for a vacation.

When the map fabric comes out...

...well it's really time!

finishing up things today

I am finally taking these pillowcases across the finish line!

Three shades of blue
and a lot of satin stitching...
which is my favorite embroidery stitch.

CAPITAL business

It was a cool cloudy day
so we loaded up the granddaughters
for a history lesson at our state capital in Pierre SD.

I was impressed that they were impressed.

Skittles

Having the granddaughters around...

is always my excuse to buy Skittles.

We ate our Skittles and sewed silly penguins.

kiss me goodnight

A new grandbaby in August requires a quilt...

read me a story
tuck me in tight
say a sweet prayer
and kiss me goodnight.

Great-grandma did the embroidering...
Grandma did the piecing and quilting.
