sharing lessons

Happy Friday everyone!
And Happy Labor Day weekend...
do you have fun planned?

I blogged over at
'Pickles and Petunias'
today where I revealed
"Mom's Peach Pie"

If you know me at all
you know...
"I don't share recipes!"
(I may have missed sharing lessons in kindergarten?)

But my sister Lisa talked me into
sharing all my dirty little (cooking) secrets on our blog
'Pickles and Petunias.'

So...
if you do find the time in your busy life to make this recipe
be sure to share with us how much you liked it.
And...
if you didn't like it...
well, keep it to yourself, we don't care.
(Oh dear, that sounded a little snotty didn't it?)

Now we are headed north to North Dakota
to share an enjoyable weekend with
daughter knit and pearl and her CEO.

playing defense

Do you like to hang your pillows out
on the hottest and coldest days of the year?

It sounds like a good a defensive plan against
 germs and bacteria doesn't it?

It was 113 degrees here yesterday!
Definitely the hottest day of the summer for us.

purses and pies

What does purses...

and peach pies...

have in common?
I can make both at the same.

I hope Mr. b doesn't mind a little thread in his pie
and that nutmeg I threw in the purse shakes out!

peachy

I think I may feel a peach pie coming on?

The peaches have been so good this year!

Usually I'm satisfied with eating my fruit
without all that other good stuff added in...
like cream, sugar and eggs.
Not to mention the ice cream you need over the top.

Check back tomorrow...
I may share a piece with you.

bag lady

I was busy being a bag lady this weekend...

Saturday I shopped for fabric
and really scored I must say.

With the help of Mr. b I scavenged tables full of
upholstery and curtain ends and pieces.

I absolutely love bags made from upholstery fabric...
they remind me of the old carpet bags.

This bag is one of 4 that I have special orders for.
I say NO special orders but daughter knit and pearl
just keeps giving me more?

But...she makes a dang good partner
so I better be good to her.

Are you ready for some football?

Well the first week of school is just about over here.

Football will be a little warm tonight.
I'm not a fan so will find a good movie
to go along with a mindless knitting project.

I think this will be on the menu for our supper...

Do you call it supper or dinner at your house?
I'm just to old to change my ways...
it's breakfast, dinner and supper at our house.

But I love breakfast for dinner or supper
and this gift of  pancake mixes and syrups was perfect for me.

perfection

I shared my day off yesterday with my sister Lisa.
It was the perfect day...
we got to talk blogs for hours
 without anyone interrupting us
or telling us how silly we are.

We both love to blog and read blogs.
We agree that reading other blogs get our creative juices flowing.

Lisa's photo editing is outstanding!
The thrill of a good hunt for us is with our cameras.

Hope you're having a good Thursday...

treasures

I don't have diamonds or pearls,
or rare coins or books.
My treasures are our family recipes.

And today I dug out my recipe for Uncle Roland's Relish...

It only happens once a year and then it goes back into my vault.

To get to one of my recipes you have to be married into the family for at least five years.

Well, my sister Lisa has convinced me we need to start sharing
some of our wealth and knowledge,
particularly
recipes, household tips, gardening
and vintage photographs.

It will be like going through a rehab for me,
I don't share nicely.

So we will be doing that, learning to share, on our new blog
(I will get a button here as soon as one of my computer savvy children help me out with it.)

Meanwhile...
be sure to stop and smell the vinegar today.

'maters

I love August...
with it's over abundance of  'maters

That's tomatoes...
not tow mater!

I have been having tomatoes on everything...
tacos, blt's, in my cottage cheese...

salads...

and I have my first canker sore to prove it.
But a little pain is a small price to pay.

Have you been keeping up with this presidential campaign?

morning, noon and night...
blah! blah! blah!

What did we do before television remotes
and mute buttons?

perfectly lovely

We are having the perfect day here today...
I would call it perfectly lovely.

I use the word lovely a lot.
In fact my sewing project yesterday...

turned out lovely.

I hope the little girl that wears it
has black patent leather Mary Jane shoes.

I will definitely be making more of these
for our Dakota Maid shop.

round and round

Can you believe it's the middle of August already?

Like a merry-go-round...
so goes the year.

Doing a bit of sewing here today.
Nothing new there right?
But it will be something new in my etsy shop soon.

Rally time

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
is in full swing
here in South Dakota...

Loud motorcycles going down
I-90 night and day.
Our ambulance goes out to pick
them off the pavement several times a day.

People dressed in leather
with bandannas on their heads...
all trying to look like Hell's Angels
or other gang members?

Two little girls in summer dresses...
on their tricycles...
so much sweeter.
(and they're taking their rocks with them, ha.)

scrap yarn

The Dakota Maids found a great way to use up all
that leftover cotton yarn from their dishrag knitting...

crocheted coasters...
so easy and fun!

Waste not...want not

Check them out in our Dakota Maid etsy shop.

Merry Maids

Housecleaning?

I think the housewife here just simply got tired of cleaning house
and had it knocked down and cleared away.

And who hasn't been overwhelmed at one time or another with
their housecleaning chores?

pickles

This blog post is brought to you
by the hard working Hudderite women
of the Grass Ranch Colony...

and their cute little boys!

I purchased a bushel of cucumbers last night at the colony...
picked and washed!
They saved me hours of standing at the sink and
scrubbing them myself.

I put up 40 quarts of dill pickles today.
The smell in my kitchen...
heavenly!
