old salty

We have reached our destination here at Mackinaw City today.

We weren't in a hurry but at times it felt like
we were traveling at a turtle's pace.
This one crossed the road in front of us tonight.
My picture didn't capture the size of him...
18-inches? from front to back.

Mr. b gave me the night off and took me out for supper.
More whitefish before we head back to beef country in a few days.

I wonder if this salty fisherman caught our fish.

five state embroidery

I just want to let you know I'm not sitting around
enjoying all this scenery every minute of the day
with idle hands.

I will be finishing up my third pair of embroidered pillowcases soon.

These kittens are sure to end up on a granddaughters bed.

Pansies are my favorite flowers.
My mother was almost finished with these.
I finished them here in Michigan.
I think that would make her smile...
her five-state pillowcases.

on the road with ken and barb

We are here in Michigan today...
and it's a very wet state.

These pictures were taken in Wisconsin.
I love all the murals that are popping up on the side of buildings.

We enjoyed fresh white fish from Lake Superior
for our supper a couple of nights ago.
When you get this far north it's all about the fish for me.

Paul

Proof that we are in Paul Bunyon country...
because if you're like me you have to see it to believe it.

on the road again

We have been on the road in our camper.
Yesterday we were in North Dakota...

today we are in Paul Bunyon country in Minnesota.

In a few days we will be in Wisconsin
 before heading into Michigan.

Life on the road is good.

Happy Mother's Day

I've been turning scraps into a quilt this week.

It's an easy log cabin pattern that is using up the smallest of my scraps.

I hope you all have a wonderful Mother's Day!

Love and Valor

I enjoy stories about the Civil War and this one caught my attention from a
quilt shop site where it is featured in a pattern book of Civil War quilts.

Quilts of Love and Valor:
Reproduction Quilts and an Authentic Civil War Love Story
Touched by the tender, real-life letters of Jacob and Emeline Ritner, a husband and wife separated by the Civil War, author Becky A. Wright shares quilt patterns based on captivating stories the couple shared. Tales of the battlefield, news from the home front, and love maintained through nearly four years of separation are captured in 11 antique-style designs, perfect for reproduction fabrics. Excerpts from Jacob and Emeline's letters--the only complete set of Civil War letters known to exist--shed light on the inspiration behind each quilt, giving you a sense of what life was like for everyday people during the Civil War.

I have a stack of reproduction fabrics
that I will make table runners or a small quilt.

I have just started reading the book and I am enjoying it.
I ordered mine used $5.19, of course, from Amazon.

bees

Another quilt as you go bag...

because when you're bored you dig out your scrap tote,
color coordinate a few colors,
and make a bag.

You know how I love a good scrap project.

May Day

April memories...

Today would be a good day for our weather
to shape up and act like spring!
