red

Ruby Red!

I am so happy to be knitting with a color
other than pink, yellow or purple.

 I like red...
if I had an old pickup it would look like this...
I have red as an accent color in my kitchen and living room.
My favorite vegetable is red...
I know, I know... tomatoes are considered a fruit.
Who decided that?
At our house we eat it as a vegetable.

And from my favorite movie...
the ruby red slippers.

Secret: Daughter Knit and Pearl let it slip the other day
that they are considering the name Ruby for their new addition.

think (hope) she's kidding because I have already named her...
ROSIE!

sheriff

There's a new sheriff in town...

This new Dakota Maid guy took me most of the day to make today.
Those first ones always take the longest.
Don't let his size fool you, he's only 6" x 7"
and one mean dude!
All corduroy and denim.
And look at those leather boots he's sport'n.
Don't get caught laughing at him behind his back
or calling him square...
cuz he'll write you a ticket right now!

He'll be watching for any suspicious activity
 at the rodeo this weekend.

Yee Haw

It's a wrap...
well, maybe?

I have been sewing nonstop for this weekends art sale.
I'm glad the deadline is here and I can return to my own agenda.

The art sale coincides with a rodeo
so we went mainly with a  western theme.

A cowboy is a man with guts and a horse.
Cowboy Proverb

Luckily I had a lot of  western themed fabrics on hand.

Of course I'm calling these baby shoes moccasins.

So...
as it's only 4 p.m.,
I may have time for yet one more project.
Gotta go!

Party on

It was a fantastic day for turning six...

Mountains of presents...balloons...
numerous parties...
pink and purple cupcakes...
piƱata...bounce castle...

I was reminded why birthdays are such a
 disappointment when you're an adult.

tip toe through the tulips

It is so nice to be finally enjoying flowers...

inside and outside.

All these pretty tulips were tempting at the WalMart store.
Of course I bought a pot!

I finished another pair of baby socks.
I don't think I'll be starting another pair anytime soon.

Butch Cassidy

Rodeo Bag...

Rodeo Horse?

"Listen, your job is to back me up, because you'd starve without me.
And you, your job is to shut up." -- Butch Cassidy

A handmade bag can be spendy
but SO original.

I turn all my scraps into a dolly blankets...

Or if you prefer...
a tiny saddle blanket.

Stitch

Between other obligations and projects...
I finally finished this needle book.

Does it seem like the smaller the project
the longer it takes to complete?

The back of the book is a mini patchwork quilt...
made of one-inch squares.

A good place to keep needles and pins for all my handwork.

just quoting

Some of my favorite quotes...

"The Lord helps those who help themselves."

"You can lead a horse to water...
but you can't make him drink."

"Don't cry over spilled milk."

"Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)"

"Most folks are about as happy as they make their minds up to be."

I have also been sewing zipper pouches
with some of my upholstery pieces.
They are turning out to be fun.

Sunday brunch

I love Sunday mornings...
Just the Mr. and I at home with absolutely no plans.

After sleeping in a bit we enjoy a big breakfast.

Is it just me or does everyone think food tastes better
cooked in a cast iron pan?
Maybe it's because we both grew up
with mom cooking at the stove in her cast iron pans.

Barb's Sausage Gravy
Brown a pound of quality pork sausage* in your cast iron frying pan.

*Trust me here...use only the best!
That no name generic stuff grocery stores sell
will have your daughter-in-law picking out strange things from it.
It's gross!

I like to keep my gravy as simple as possible...

Add some dried onion flakes while frying meat.
Once fried and browned add 1/3 cup flour and stir to cover meat.
Begin adding milk, I like to cook with whole milk.
Stir while gravy thickens.
Add 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon.
Let gravy bubble on low heat while biscuits bake in oven for 12 minutes.

If he tells you it's better than his Mom used to make
it will be a good day, right?

I'm still working on projects in progress...

I finally finished the second baby sock here.

Look who likes to hide out in our chiminea in the rain?

One of the stray neighborhood cats.
Mr. b feels sorry for them and feeds them.
Then they chase away the birds that he also feeds.
But no one is going hungry in our neighborhood...

slackers

Our two cats, Pearl and Birdie, are definitely slacking.

Look who found our eggs this morning.

Creepy right?
There's NO cute mouse in my book...
I hate the things and would move out if one moved in.

The granddaughters asked if I would knit them mice.
ugh!
They know how much I hate mice
and love to tease me about them.

Now get these things out of here!
