covid

I had just finished up this sour dough french bread when covid came knocking...

and I stupidly answered that door.

Mr. b got it first on a Saturday and I had it the following Tuesday.

My swing bed unit quickly turned into a covid unit.

I didn't know at times what I was supposed to be rehabbing from...

surgery or covid.

We both had all our shots so it wasn't the worst and we are on the mend.

My sourdough starter and the french bread went into the freezer.

unicorns and teal

Daughter Knit and Pearl handed me this jeans jacket
and a package of cute patches to put on it.
Needless to say I spent almost the entire weekend ironing them on
and then stitching around them.

I asked our 8-year-old granddaughter what she would like on it...

Rhinestones, glitter, an owl, unicorns, shiny things, pink-neon, purple and "I really like teal!"

A fairy garden was also mentioned.

This girl knows what she likes and I hope I got it all on her jacket.

This is the sixth jacket I have done for granddaughters.

Little sister gets the hand-me-downs

so I quickly put a few patches on a pair of jeans just for her.

Farmhouse Friday

The Good Old Days:
There was a time when everyone had at least one set of grandparents
that lived in a house similar to this.

I'm six

Six-year-old Mckenna likes to bike, swim and go camping.

Her favorite things are her sister Delainee, her doll also named McKenna

and her dog Mylow.

She will start kindergarten this month.

WATCH OUT WORLD!!

Happy Birthday McKenna.

details details

...it's all in the fine details.

And this birdfeeder Dakota Man made has a ton of details to it.

The face is on both ends making even more details.
He is really nailing it on these bird projects.
Yup, cute as can be.

Lila's Zucchine Bread
I love that mom didn't know how to spell zucchini on the recipe card I have from her.
Does anyone? I have to look it up every time I write it.
Trust me on this....our family could sell the secret ingredient in this.

This morning I finally reached my limit on hunting down the kitchen hand towel that I use constantly when I'm in the kitchen. It's always across the room while I am dripping wet hands to get to it.

So...I grabbed an old towel (remember this is just an experiment) then took the leftover binding that I just put on a quilt, sewed it to the towel and walla...I will never lose that towel again.

After finishing the apron and trying it out

I'll be making myself another one with a few adjustments.

salsa

Gas prices were down again today to $3.89 a gallon which still didn't justify the 90 mile round trip we drove to get a crate of peaches. What's the saying? Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Our local grocery store was sold out of peaches already!

This is a fast quart of peach salsa made in the food processor.

I would give it a 5 and will continue looking for a quick and easy salsa recipe. I love the recipe I have using all fresh ingredients but would love one that involves a can opener and I could just whip up in a hurry. No cooking.

relish

I made a spur of the moment decision to make relish today.

Those are the best decisions for me...no procrastinating.

After a trip to the colony for vegetables Mr. b and I were back at home
scrubbing and chopping vegetables.
We also bought melons, sweet corn, zucchini and tomatoes.

These eight pints will last me a couple of years

because I always forget we have it.

Tomorrows menu board will include fresh zucchini bread.

Yellow is a happy color

Don't be concerned, it will not harm you
It's only me pursuing somethin' I'm not sure of
Across my dreams with nets of wonder
I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love

From my favorite song "The Elusive Butterfly."

Mr. b captured this butterfly on my coneflowers this morning.

There was also a small monarch on a flower at the same time.

Life is good in August... the cicadas are here and garden produce is abundant.

I expect to see crates of peaches in the store soon.

sunflowers

The sunflowers are blooming here in South Dakota.

What a beautiful sight driving down the back roads.

Garlic Herb artisan bread for our supper panini's tonight.
Artisan bread is so easy to make and so good.
I am so over that overpriced Wonder bread you get in the store.

Grandma's summer camp

Grandpa thinks summer camp should always start out with a car wash.

"Turn up the music."

Everyone chipped in to make their own pizza.

Grandpa learned how to repair an American Girl Doll.
He reattached her leg and grandma sent her home in new pj's.

Grandpa also cut out dinosaurs and fish for us to paint.

For PE there was swimming and biking.

Camp is over and grandma and grandpa need a few days rest.
