slippers

I finished my knit felt slippers this weekend.

I think they may keep my feet warm during our South Dakota winters.
They are 100% wool.
I have quite a bit of yarn left over
so I start another pair in a different pattern.
I've discovered I can knit these in bed while watching Netflix.

lettuce make croutons

We eat and enjoy a lot of salads in the summer
which gives me another excuse to make a loaf of bread
for homemade croutons.

I make a nice herby loaf of bread in my bread machine using an assortment of herbs...
garlic powder, Italian seasoning, parmesan cheese and more.
I let my loaf sit a few days to dry out before I cut into cubes
and season again with a good olive oil, more garlic and onion powder,
sage and  my own dehydrated parsley.

Place on a cookie sheet in a single layer and bake for 6 to 8 minutes
in a 450 degree oven.
Watch carefully, I don't like burned croutons.

Have a great weekend!

buckets

I've been going through closets throwing a few things
and decided to save my old bucket hat for the granddaughters.
The trouble is they come in twos...the granddaughters I mean.
The first two were twins so everything I made had to be times two.

The other set of grands are sisters so I don't do singles there either.
My conscience got the best of me and I made a second hat
with a free pattern I found on  Pinterest.
I used grandpa's old jeans for the front of the hat.
I think the bug lining is so cute.
They are pretty easy and could be tempted to make a few more.

binding

It's a beautiful day here so I decided to take my
red, white and blue quilt outdoors to sew the binding.
I will definitely have it done by July 4.
Maybe it will be chilly enough to wrap up in it while I watch fireworks.

more projects

I slipped into this Carnegie Library with my camera when we were in Deadwood.
My dream home would be a Carnegie Library.

On November 8, 1905, the library was officially dedicated in front of a large crowd of spectators. Deadwood Mayor Edward McDonald delivered a thought provoking speech on the importance of a public library and its benefit on the community. Today Deadwood’s Carnegie Library still continues to serve the Deadwood citizens and visitors in the capacity of a library, archives, and research facility.
I came back  from our trip out west with two projects whirling in my head.

I was surprised to find I have all the fabric I need for a "Teton" quilt.
Maybe Mr. b. will take me back when I get it finished for a picture.

The second project involves a pair of slipper for the camper...
like these.

They are knit with 100% wool to be felted.
I hope mine turn out as well as this pattern picture.

hand stitched for hand washing

Camper embroidering...

Embroidering flour sack towel are always one of my go-to hand projects
when I want fast and easy.
I keep a small stack of them here in our camper along with dish rag yarn.
They both make doing dishes a little more enticing.

wild things

It turns out there is a lot to see in the Teton's.

It was beautiful seeing this moose in the wild.

I wonder if I will need to make a couple more of these?
I enjoy making zipper pouches.

Mt. Rushmore

We are camper cruising this week...
spending a few days in the Black Hills before heading for the Grand Tetons.

I never get over the grandeur of Mt. Rushmore.

I read that if George Washington had a body with this head it would be 40 stories high.

The Little Red Hen

This is the other half of that birdhouse I had Mr. b cut up.

Who didn't love The Little Red Hen book as a kid?
Our youngest granddaughter wasn't at all impressed
that I had cut this book up.

She asked the pig:
"Will you help me plant this grain of wheat?"
"Not I!" said the pig.

Binding Betty

I saw these awhile back and decided I needed one for myself.
I couldn't find them anywhere to purchase and
being that annoying  "I can make that myself " person
I ordered balls and spools and did just that.
I call mine Binding Betty.

You wind your quilt binding on it
and place it on the spool holder on top of your sewing machine.
No more binding all over your lap and on the floor.
