German pancakes

Have you ever heard of or made
Speck and Dicken?

They are "German New Years Cakes"
My sisters and I made these as a salute to our German heritage last weekend.

Always begin with farm fresh eggs.

SPECK AND DICKEN CAKES
2 eggs
2 cups brown sugar
1 tsp. soda
3-4 cups buttermilk or regular milk
4 tsp. anise seed and 1/3 tsp. anise oil
1 1/2 cups rye flour
1 1/2 cups white flour
1 lb. hamburger and 1 lb. sausage

Mix all the ingredients in order give. The mixture will be thick. Mix hamburger and sausage. Shape into 25 cent size ball and press flat and brown beforehand. Arrange on griddle (4 at a time). Pour batter over the top and fry as for pancakes. Makes about 50. Eat with butter and syrup.

Mmmm mmm...just like grandma made.
