Dakota Kids

From time to time we will get mothers
with older children at our booth...
and children like to shop too.

These pencil pouches should appeal to kids of all ages...
they sew up quickly
and I get a chance to dig out fun novelty prints.

...maybe mom will want one for herself?

At $8 each they are a bargain
and hopefully mom can't say no.

20!

I challenged daughter knit and pearl
to make 20 bibs in 20 days.

I enjoy a good challenge
and hoped they would use up some of my stash.
Look there's Mr. b's flannel shirt!

I included something for every baby...

boys and girls.

There are bibs for monster babies...

and farm babies.

For Babies that like bugs and flowers...

or cats and dogs...

even dinosaurs!

And the 20 bibs barely made a dent in my stash!
20 burp cloths?

A paws project

Our cat Birdie gave this morning's project two paws up.

Maybe she was hoping for a new blanket?

It's definitely her style.

This set will be on our next Dakota Kids table...
for sale.

Maybe I could come up with enough scraps
to make her a little security blanket?

Who's there?

What do you do when a robin is tapping at your window?

(internet image)

Well I invited her in
for a cup of coffee and a snickerdoodle muffin.

We talked about the weather, knitting projects
and Downton Abbey.

breathing by the river

Mr. b and I headed to the river yesterday for our supper...
Fish tacos by the shore.

This wildlife was having their supper by the river also...

Happy Birthday

It was a big week for us...

We celebrated St. Patrick's Day as if we were actually Irish.
Mr b. loves corned beef hash.
and
Our granddaughters were here for the weekend.

We whipped up a little something
 for their daddy's March birthday...
they love my sewing room!

He loves to golf so we made him a silly pillowcase
and handmade cards.

The big fluffy birthday cake went out the door
before I got a picture of it or...
a piece of it!

marathon sewing

I have been on somewhat of a bib-making marathon...
more about that later though.

I treated myself to a couple of flower stems
while at the hair salon last week...

People in South Dakota wear many hats
and my hairdresser also happens to be a florist.

Flowers always make people better,
 happier, and more helpful;
they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.
Luther Burbank

I call this denim bib a stitch sampler bib.
I'm crazy about recycling old denim jeans.
The bib has 6 different stitch patterns on it.
And it took a great picture with my flower stems.

Irish

Happy Day!
Everyday!

And may the luck of the Irish be with you!
Everyday!

Aren't these pea pods sweet?
With a little crocheted edge...
so delicate and so vintage.

What's your favorite St. Patrick's Day tradition?
How about a corned beef and cabbage lunch?

If it's drowning you’re after,
don’t torment yourself with shallow water.
Irish saying

May the sun always shine on your windowpane,
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain,
May the hand of a friend always be near you,
May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you!
-Irish Blessing

Jungle Gym

It was a beautiful weekend
 to have the granddaughters here...
and to conquer the playground!

Three hours of fresh air and sunshine...
just what the doctor ordered.

Sunshine is a welcome thing.
It brings a lot of brightness.

season finale

This is a not-so-very-springy post.
And I am feeling this spring-like weather!

Today I have a couple windows open
and few items on the clothesline.

I finished my Downton Abbey Sampler Scarf.
Just in time for the season finale...
which came way to fast.

I liked the fact that I was using up scrap yarn...
but was less than pleased with some of that yarn quality.

When you spend hours and hours on a project
you want it to look and feel superior.

So...
while I wait for the next season of Downton Abbey
I will have to find a more suitable project.

The Circus

Happy Friday everyone!

Two short weeks until spring.
I may even get out for a short walk today to celebrate that fact.

Todays blog post is sponsored by
Dakota Kids on etsy.

I loved making this bag,
from start to finish.

I envisioned it as a diaper tote bag.
It has lots of pockets inside for all of baby's things.

And how about this news from Ringling Bros. and Barnum Bailey...
They are dropping their elephant acts.
Thirteen traveling-circus elephants will retire to Florida by 2018.

I love everything about the circus...
but it's a sad fact that this magnificent animal
was never meant to be enclosed.

Harry Tupper: "You my boy could be...a concessionaire.
Toby Tyler: "I could?"

Did you read Toby Tyler as a child?
I always had my head buried in a book
and this was one of my favorites.
