assembly line sewing

made these little zipper pouches using the assembly line method.*
*NO children
were involved in the making of these pouches.
However one husband helped out when called upon.
I first rounded-up all the fabrics and zippers...
then cut and sewed in stages.
With my short attention span...
it took me days!
There are fifteen of them.
So line up girls...
Don't get caught without one in your saddle bag.

pot pie

A first for me...
homemade chicken pot pie
Another great use for rotisserie chicken.
Chicken Pot Pie
4 T. butter
1/2 c diced onion
3 carrots
3 small potatoes
handful of frozen peas
1 stalk celery
1/4 c flour
1 can chicken broth
salt and pepper
thyme to taste
1/4 c half and half or cream
unbaked pie crust or store bought puff pastry
Melt butter and add onion, carrots, potatoes, celery and garlic.
Cook until onions turn translucent.
Stir in the chicken and then sprinkle the flour over top all and stir it until it's all combined.
Cook for 1 minute, then pour in the chicken broth. Let this cook and thicken.
Add thyme, salt and pepper.
Add half and half or cream, then stir and let it bubble up and keep thickening.
Pour filling into pie crust or if using puff pastry pour into deep dish pie pan
and top with crust or puff pastry.
Bake for 30 minutes in 375 degree oven or until top is golden brown.
I am adding thyme to my herb garden this summer...
love it with chicken dishes.

sunny side up

Which do you prefer?
Sunny side up...
Or over easy?
The sun was shining when I got up this morning so
I decided the day called for a sunny project.
I love a cute zipper pouch!
I like this yellow bicycle a lot...
I made ice tea this morning...
the season's first.
I suppose you could say yellow is my favorite color.
Hope you're having a sunny day too.

Bibs for Little Tex

Ben Jones and the Sheriff came up as the men scowled at each other.
Little Tex and Bob Miller returned to the XY Ranch in a great hurry.
Slattery's case of rustling ended with a long-term prison sentence.
Bob Miller could again turn to the job of running the XY
 - with the assistance of Little Tex.

I just called...

My brother called last week
to invite us for Easter dinner at the lakeside
 restaurant his son operates.
The food was great...
the company was fun...
and the lakeside dining was so enjoyable.
I wonder if they would share
 that carrot cake recipe?

Best of luck to Allan and Charlotte
at the Twin Lakes Resort here in South Dakota.

burps and spit-ups

I finished up my second project in progress...
These burp cloths came with hemstitched blankets
I ordered and finished long ago.
Why I waited this long to finish them I'll never know.
I love crocheting and I love a small project...
and I especially love flannel.
I like to keep the edges to a minimum
as I know moms won't have time
to block the crocheting after washing.
The backs are sweet also.
Wishing you all a blessed Easter from
Knit and Pearl

Old bags

I was doing some much needed cleaning last week...
company always brings on a good cleaning session for me.
When I start a stitching project I like to keep it in its own bag. I was cleaning I discovered a LOT of these bags.
So this week I am on a roll finishing up some of these
Projects in Progress
starting with these embroidered flour sack towels.
I filed these chef towels away because I didn't like
working on the thin wrinkled towels.
I am happy to report I have found a quilt shop
that sells thick and inexpensive flour sack towels.
I chose Mary Engelbreit colors for this coffee pot.
Now it's on to some crocheting for me.
I wonder which bag I have that project in?

baby basket

Daughter Knit and Pearl received a commission
to put together a  baby basket to be raffled off
tomorrow evening at a local event.
We sewed shoes, bibs, burp cloths

and a receiving blanket for the basket.
She will be sewing a couple of tag toys tonight to add to it.
We thought the fancy stitching
around the blanket turned out adorable!
We even cut out vintage illustrations
from a tattered Peter Rabbit storybook
to make blocks for the basket.
Some mama will be lucky to win it.

Bake Day

Between stitches on this flour sack towel
I baked chocolate chip cookies.
I don't make them as often as I would like to...
because I have no will power.
I make a mean chocolate chip cookie!

a rural ride

We took a country drive yesterday...
And this is what captured the attention of my camera.
So bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levy but the levy was dry
It was a beautiful day here...
 and we love the countryside.
We also stopped to talk to the animals...
I was dreaming about knitting projects
 as I took these pictures.
(Photo bombed!)

waste not

I don't like to waste anything...
food, time, yarn and especially
NOT fabric.
I bought the kit for this little quilt
and when I opened I remember thinking whoa!
this isn't much fabric.
The leftover scrap pile was pretty skimpy.
Maybe enough for a little patchwork bib?
or TWO!
WOW I'm impressed with myself.
But now I'm wondering
if there is enough for a little pair of shoes?
YUP! AND with one square big enough for a burp cloth.
I had to dig out grandma's chenille scraps to back it however.
The whole set is listed in our etsy shop.
You should see what I can do with
 a whole rotisserie chicken!

ride a horse

I heard someone say
Cowboy Up!
so I did...
Six checkbook covers all in fun western prints.
If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.
Cowboy Proverb

I have a couple stacks of western print fat quarters
 which were perfect for these.
I really like this stagecoach print.

If you think bull ridin’ isn’t extreme,
come sit on his back and try on my boots.
Cowboy Quotes

I wonder if I have enough in my checkbook to buy a horse?
