mangos

I think this fruit stand in the lower Rio Grande Valley, Texas has margarita written all over it.

Today is National Margarita Day so I put two of the mangos

we bought from here in the freezer to make a frozen margarita at 4 today.

Don't forget to bring tortilla chips and salsa!

Padre

We checked out South Padre Island this week and definitely enjoyed the seafood.

Sand drifts as opposed to snow drifts in South Dakota...

I'm having trouble downloading photos today so hope to share more later.

hill country woods

Today was picture day for my newest quilt.

I showed you this Texas place last year

and I knew it would be the perfect place to picture this quilt when it was finished.

When we got this done we went searching for this sawmill and found it deep in the hills.
Dakota Man came back with chunks of mesquite, purple and mountain cedar, pecan, osage orange and more that I can't remember. I can't wait to see what he turns it all into.
I can tell you he is talking about a bigger lathe.

It was a fun day spent in Texas Hill Country.

ice

It's been icey here in Hill Country the last three days which means we have been camper bound.

The rain has been a welcome sight here.

I found a snake plant for our camper, it makes it feel more homey.

Not wanting to purchase a pot for it as I have so many at home I settled for this green bean can until we get back. The beans were surprisingly good.

Well, back to my knitting and reading until the sun comes up again.

tx

Gruene Hall is the oldest dance hall in Texas built in  1878.

Singers Willie Nelson, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Lyle Lovett and Hal Ketchum were among the more famous singers that played here.

We also visited Magnolia Pearl and Luckenbach, Tx. yesterday.

cattle and seashells

Texas for me is longhorn cattle.
What do you think about when someone says Texas?

I started this shawl right before we left South Dakota.

It was my road project along with a good book. I bought the yarn when we were down here last year because it reminded me of seashells.

But when I work on it here in hill country I think about longhorn cattle.

Texas

Three blizzards later we are here in Texas...and what a relief to miss the last one.

It's all about the kolaches for us.
Well, Mr. b enjoys the chicken fried steak too.

It is rocky and rustic here in Hill Country.

Our campground is close to the Quadalupe River and we love biking beside it.

Sitting outdoors to knit or read a book in January! Life is good.
