 when the granddaughters come...

these snow globes worked for the three-year-old

as well as the nine-year-olds.

 

 

 

I picked up the snow and little figures at Wal-Mart.

I had the wide mouth pint jars and hot glue.

 

 

Of course Grandma had to have one too.

I have a confession to make...

I did my Christmas decorating before Thanksgiving.

I am so glad I did as we will get to enjoy it a week or two longer.

 

 

It also frees my time up to do more sewing.

Todays project was this Christmas pillowcase

 for my mother in the nursing home.

 

She will need some extra cheering up this season.

If you have time drop in at your local nursing home

and visit a resident or two.

 Yesterday (Sunday) before our three-year-old granddaughter

 went back home she needed a robot from grandpa's workshop.

 

 

It was a hurried project and she loved it.

 

 

Our Thanksgiving was a fun and crazy day

with our kids and four granddaughters here.

 

Today is turkey soup making day.

Four days = four forest friends.

I finished these yesterday

and today I was looking for another tiny animal to make.

 

They are three inch squirrels and rabbits for our Thanksgiving table.

New from Dakota Man...

Noah's Ark

 

 

 

A lot of work and as cute as can be.

The top lifts off and a side door drops down

for play and to store the animals.

It will be hard to let this one go.

Veteran's Day

 

I am proud of our family members that served in the military...

My dad (pictured), Mr. b, his brother and sister, my brother,

as well as many uncles and cousins.

They served in World War II, the Korean Conflict,

 Desert Storm and the Vietnam War.

I will never take our freedom for granted that they fought for.

Thank you.

this and that part two

When I say I pour my candles in small batches

I mean really small.

 

 

Two pounds of soy wax chips.

Labeled and ready to go today.

 

 

A proper cup of tea always begins with fresh water

 brought to a boil in a whistling tea kettle.

I let it boil longer than I need to

just because I like the whistle.

 

And talk about cute!

 

 

A princess and her chicken.

I made the earflap chicken hat and

daughter knit and pearl put the costumes together.

I'm pouring a few fall candles today...

which means I'm wearing this old flannel shirt

 to prevent wax spills on my even older shirt underneath it.

Welcome back little nuthatch.

We love spotting different bird species at Mr. b's feeders.

 

 

Artisan bread...so good and so easy to make.

This one had bits of apple in it.

 

 

"Fire in the sky"...North Dakota has beautiful sunsets.

 

 

I think baking powder biscuits were probably the first thing

we ever made in Home Economics.

I am learning once again to make

 my own biscuits for biscuits and gravy.

Don't know why everything has to come out of a can?

It started in Maine last year...

 

 

How can such a simple project take so long to finish?

Because I have to have seven knitting projects

going at the same time I suppose.

 

 

I love the way the colors of the yarn

 matched the rocky Maine coastline.

 

 

It was a mindless pattern that I could

look up from to enjoy the views.
