quilts

I finished up my "Prairie Preservationist" quilt
and it's a beauty in all of it's scrappyness.
The fabrics were sold at one time
in my sister's shop "The Prairie Preservationist".
Don't you just love the name
and idea of being a prairie preservationist?

This garlic herb bubble loaf deserves a mention.
I stumbled across the recipe on Pinterest
and whipped it up in my kitchen bakery.

It was delicious with last night's spaghetti.

a pair

When the quilt you've been working on
matches the painting he's been working on...

teacher

I decided to dig into my novelty fabric bin
to make a book bag for the teacher.

Thirty-two fun 5" squares.

Let's see...
what else did I do this weekend?
Binding on two quilts - honey oatmeal raisin cookies -
potato salad - macaroni salad - embroidery
I pretty much wore out a path between my kitchen
and little sewing sweatshop.

Friday post card

I'm guessing the year was 1941 or 1942...almost 80 years ago.
My mother is far left, middle row, looking sideways.
I always thought she looked like Anne Frank
with her long black curls.
Would you believe all five of her kids inherited her curls?

rice bag

I have been wanting to make a Japanese rice bag for some time.

A  modern take on the Japanese Komebukuro, a traditional pouch used in Japan to carry rice offerings to the temple during religious ceremonies, or to hold gifts destined for a close friend or relative. Komebukuro bags were hand sewn in a patchwork style using a mix of whatever fabrics were on hand, and closed with a cotton drawstring cord.

My sister needed a gift for her very talented daughter-in-law.
No pressure there right?
I hope she likes it and can use it.

Just as soon as I clear out a few older projects I will be making another one
as it was that fun to make.

picnic

Seems everyone is having a picnic today on the new tables
that Mr. b made this weekend.
