what's growing?

I smell rhubarb pie...

...it's finally that time of year!

by the sea

I made citronella candles this morning for gift giving.

I don't know if I'm convinced that citronella really wards off
the monster-sized mosquitos we grow in South Dakota...
but a burning candle is always nice, inside or outside.

I love the vintage seashore pics I borrowed from the internet to use as labels.

I brought the seashell back from New Jersey in 1973 for my grandfather.
I purchased it in a souvenir shop on the boardwalk.
I'm still a sucker for souvenir shops.

patriotic projects

I'm still feeling patriotic today.

These red, white and blue projects
are hanging around the house waiting to be finished...
which will be soon!

summer

Memorial Day... let summer begin!

After I got most of my gardening done
I came in and made a macaroni salad for our supper.

It doesn't get more summery than this.

ghost train

The things you don't see along side the road...

We took a little (three states) camping trip and had to stop and turn around
to get a better look at these old beat up passenger rail cars on tracks in Iowa.

I call it the "the ghost train."
Did you ever see the movie Ghost Ship? It is creepy.

Anyway...Hey, it's good to be back home again.

happy campers

Have you mapped out a summer vacation yet?

These boxed bags I made will be perfect to take along on a trip.

Or how about Dakota Man's latest screen print?
On tees and flour sack towels...

MOM

Did you have a nice Mother's day? or as I call it...
"Mother's Day and all those other stupid holidays
that promote millions of dollars of sales for stores."

I did have a nice day.
But as my siblings and I visited our mother in the nursing home
I couldn't help looking around at all the other mother's there that spent the day alone.
Holidays come with a lot of expectations and disappointments to many.

A few funny Daily Affirmations for Mothers -

- I deserve love, respect and kindness. I also deserve cheesecake.

- I  am not responsible for my children's success or failures,
unless they become highly successful.

- I  will embrace the aging process by reminding my children
which wrinkles they gave me and when.

Miners

These guys remind me of miners...
Irish coal miners.

internet image

It's been a hard day in the mines
and they are headed to the pub for a pint of Irish stout.

And for now I am putting my knitting needles away
and exchanging them for a crochet hook and something new.
 a
More about that later...

snippets

Yesterday I returned to my little sewing sweatshop
after taking two weeks off from sewing.

I have piles of these scraps from flannel ends
 leftover from larger projects.
You know how I love sewing snippets.

Five dolly blankets ready for the shop
and honestly they didn't even make a dent in my scrap piles.

seasonal

I don't know what happened to spring
but this summer-like weather had me making potato salad
 for our lunch today.

dolls

I'm still in love with pocket dolls.

These make four...
with another one on my needles.

I would call them stash busters if they used more yarn.

tweaking

I have been searching for a pizza crust for a year now...
you know the ultimate pizza crust.

It has to be quick, (I don't want to slave over it all day)
easy (let the Kitchen Aid do the work)
 and good (like Pizza Hut).
This one comes close.

These are his and her pizzas...beef and pepperoni for him
and Canadian bacon with pineapple for me.

I am going to tweak this crust a bit before I share it.
