special delivery

This little Adirondack chair that grandpa made for
our fourth granddaughter is being delivered to her today.

Grandpa builds and paints the chairs...
Grandma adds the artwork.
We finished it last night.
The varnish is drying as it goes down the road.

There will no more fighting over chairs with her sister...

They each have their own now.

Texas

I've never been to Texas...but Mr. b has.
He brought back this cookbook many years ago.

I think Texas is on all our minds lately.
At least with a drought you don't have a major cleanup to follow.

I may have to rename my "Wash Day Stew"
to "Texas Hash" for tonight's supper.
Yes, we still call our evening meal supper.
I wonder what they call it in Texas?
Probably rations for awhile.

The outhouse is nearly ready for business.
I just have to decide what color to paint it?

I wonder what color fashionable outhouses are these days?

It would also make a dang cute chicken coop!

Farmer's Market

I picked up a small box of tomatoes
at Saturday's farmer's market.

I love a good farm market.
I can appreciate how much work it is to raise a large garden.
The same vendor also sold me a tin can of zinnias
to take to my mother  in the assisted living center.

We sliced up a few for taco's and blt's this weekend
and the rest went in the freezer until it's soup time.

Could it be true?

Can you feel it?

The morning light is at a different angle...
the temps are cooler...

the crickets are bigger...
the cicadas louder.
I'm craving popcorn and pumpkin spice creamer in my coffee.
A quilt is nearing the finish line in my sewing room.

All the signs say autumn is near.
I love it!

The Wild West

Our Black Hills trip included a jaunt over the border
into Wyoming for a hike around Devil's Tower.

We were amazed to see rock climbers on it.
I mean...who would be that stupid right?

We also visited Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane's
burial sites in the Mt. Moriah cemetery in Deadwood.
This cemetery is a creepy place to be at dusk.

After a few days in the west
I was inspired to come back and sew "Wild West" projects.

I find the pictures that I want to use
and transfer them onto my fabric.
I then sew them into zipper pouches.
It's a fun process.

camping 101

We dusted out the camper and spent a few days
in the beautiful Black Hills.

I can't believe I forgot my camera!
We had to depend on Mr. b's phone.

We hope to have all the kinks out of the camper soon
so we can venture out of state with it next month.

funny

When the granddaughters are here
we always have to sew up a quick project together.

They chose funny bunnies.
They were fast and easy.
Nine-year-olds don't have a lot of patience.

And now we are making chocolate chip cookies
to go with grandma's magic smoothies.

the circle of life

My breakfast cereal...

and this sunflower ...

have something in common.

Can you think what that is?

The Wide Missouri

Our son brought his boat with him this weekend
and we enjoyed two days on the river.

You wouldn't dare be a landlubber in our family.

projects

I am amazed to actually be working on projects a season ahead.
I will credit the long hot summer we had.
I am craving me some autumn!

I am a cold weather girl.

Outhouse update:

My resident carpenter pulled a muscle
lifting one of these heavy sidewalls
and had to take a few days off.
But everything is okay and he is back at it.

art quilting

I dropped my feed dog* to experiment with these
Inktense colored pencils on fabric.

It's pretty easy...
I'm excited to do more of it.

*no dogs were harmed during this experiment.

pj

What's a girl to do when they can't find pj's to suit them?

You make your own!

And when you have the pj's you finally want
you make zucchini bread for a bedtime snack.

Life is good...

three

I quickly sewed up this jumper
for a granddaughter that turned three this weekend.
It's a pretty basic pattern.

We picked up the pony in a purse
when we were out west to go with it.
Clothes for a three-year-old probably wouldn't cut it.

fall-ish

We are FINALLY having a cool and rainy day here in
almost always SUNNY South Dakota.
Honestly...too many sunny days get me down.
I need inclement days to get inspired!

This kind of day calls for a little trip up the highway...

NO not in this camper.
But wouldn't this old Airstream be fun to renovate?
We saw it along the way.

Our destination was
Flor's
for some discounted name brand fabrics.

I'm in a fall state of mind here.

Time to do some Halloween projects.

pulled pork

Dakota Man's newest flour sack towel design.
He also did a few shirts with it.

We really like a good Boston pork butt
smoked on the Traeger.

I wonder if he could do a Boston baked beans towel?
