sun and surf

I will be away from my desk.

You see...
I'm leaving on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again...

No really, I'll be back in 9 days after enjoying
the sun and surf in Florida.
In the meantime I had to borrow this photo off the net.
I'll be sharing some great photos of
daughter knit and pearl's wedding when I get back.
Until then...b

The Tin Man

"The heart is not measured by how much you love,
but how much you are loved by others."

hop hop hop

Easter will soon be here.
Can't believe I haven't dyed any eggs yet?

Daughter knit and pearl made this touch-me-not towel
to hang on my oven door. Very cute huh? b

taki

What do you think?
Taki enough for a Taki Tiki party in Florida?

And only a week from Sunday! b

reptile?

This photo looks like it could be the skin of a reptile doesn't it?
Sort of scarey looking.

But no...

It's our new favorite fruit.
The granddaughters got us started on fresh pineapple
and it's delicious. b

artist's aprons

Dug these cute little apron projects off the shelf Saturday to complete.

I know our little artists have aprons at home
so Grandma will probably keep these here
 for messy art projects.
I love working with novelty prints in children's patterns.
I changed the fabric a little so I would have enough to
complete a third one.

I'll be sharing this one.  b

final act

More snow coming down today...
hope it's winter's final act.
I think it may be a good day
to begin laying out summer clothes for our Florida trip?

I decided this weather called for Mother's homemade potato soup recipe.
Actually there is no recipe, just hamburger, potatoes and carrots,
don't forget the dumplings.
 I loved this as a child...comfort food.
We enjoyed it with a slice of beer bread hot out of the oven.
Have a great weekend...b

wristlet

Daughter knit and pearl gave me this cute project last weekend
and it worked up quickly...

I'm always looking for fat quarter projects
and this one took three with enough fabric
to make up another one just like this.
It was nice returning to my sewing room to work on a smaller project.
Well just about everything is smaller than a quilt right? b

curtain please

Ta Da...
The big reveal on my two-year project!

I obviously didn't know what I was getting myself into
when I started cutting and sewing these strips...

Once I had the strips together and cut into 2-inch squares
I had to go back and sew each seam at an angle to make them curve.

I love all quilts
but am always drawn to the old-fashioned ones made from scraps,
like our grandmothers made and used.

I used scraps I had and bought a few. I stayed with small prints to keep the old look.
I was thrilled when I got a box of fabrics from my mother-in-law to include in the quilt.
I always smile when I see one of the blues, so similar to a dress my grandmother wore.

Some days it seemed as if I would never complete this project
in time for my daughters wedding.
When she would come home to visit I would have to tuck it away
and then I was always slow to return to it.

When I couldn't decide on a binding,
my mother suggested using various fabrics
from the quilt to mix it up. I did and loved it.

I had it machine quilted with a green flannel on the back.

I gave the quilt to daughter knit and pearl at her bridal shower
last weekend rather than risk losing it to and from
St. Augustine, Florida where she gets married.
I hope I'm around someday when she hands it over
to her daughter upon her marriage. b

wrinkles

Don't you wish you could iron out
all of life's little wrinkles so easily?  b

good laughs

It was a perfect weekend...
lots of good laughs, and a few tears too...
at daughter knit and pearls bridal shower.

It was nice seeing her together with her high school friends,
such sweet girls then and now.
Oh dear the years are passing by quickly!
Her bridal shower was a lovely affair
with most of her best friends and closest relatives
sitting together at a table decorated prettily
 with flowers, cupcakes and champagne.
And what wonderful gifts!
May her married life be blessed with much love.   b

showers

Our forecast for tomorrow...
a shower at noon

and it's for the best daughter two parents
 could ever wish for!
(lucky us! she's marrying a great guy too yet)
Hope your weekend is as enjoyable
as ours is going to be...b

natural healing

I'm resorting to alternative medicine for my sinus.
I've been to the doctor and the dentist with no relief.
So I printed out a diagram of reflexology.
Reflexology is described as a natural healing art
involving the application of pressure to different parts of the feet, hands or ears.
So when you see me pushing on the second toe of my foot
you know I'm really rubbing my head.
Now that's funny.  b

breaking

Break time...

Up since 6 a.m. this morning...
lots of little jobs to do before the weekend
and I have a great excuse to get things done.
Anymore I need a little motivation to get things done...b

warm breezes

It's finally a day worthy of being called spring.
I wondered how best to picture the day to describe it?
Everything outdoors looks like the hard winter we had,
no buds on the trees yet, lawn still brown,
but I did find these tulips sticking up out of the dirt...

A very good sign I would say.

And how about this little chirping robin in search of a fat juicy worm...
He needs to be fattened up some.

And we have already had the granddaughters bikes out...
The fact that their feet can now reach the pedals makes me just a little sad.
Kids just grow up way too fast don't they? b

good morning

Good Monday all...

Do you like to grind your own beans like we do?
Do you have a favorite cup?

It's promising to be a fun week with the whole family
together at the end of the week.
When the children have left the nest...
being all together at the same time
is a rare and fine thing. b

pick'n

 chick'n pick'n today...

- yay! the sun is shining, finally

- I'm craving a slice of warm homemade bread
which is so NOT on the low carb plan

- looking forward to a little shopping this weekend for next week's bridal shower

- can't wait for the smell of new grass and sheets from the clothesline

- I want the afternoon off, boo hoo, that ain't happening

- I'm sad to be watching the end of the BBC series "Monarch of the Glen"

- thinking about a new knit project but first
I have a very sweet (and top secret) sewing project on the table

- wishing author Jodie Picoult could write books as fast as I can read them

- dreaming about the sand and ocean on my feet, only 28 more days!

Have a fun weekend...b
