1936

I was combing through old news this morning for the weekly feature in our newspaper when I saw these ads dated May 22, 1936. They are so amusing.

Can you imagine wearing this undergarment? Had to have been pure torture.
I remember wearing garter belts before panty girdles came along (yes, I'm that old). Those garters would be embedded in your skin after sitting on them through a class.

And how about these grocery prices?
I'll take half a dozen heads of lettuce to go with the pork chops.  b

vanilla

Remember that bottle of Three Olives vodka I had?
I made vanilla extract with it this morning.
Super easy... just Mexican vanilla beans and vodka.
In two months I'll have homemade vanilla extract
to put in my famous chocolate chip cookies.
And I'll have a few bottles to share with friends. b

staying inside

Four inches of new snow on the ground again this morning.

What's a birdie to do?
I say get in her house and stay there.

Mr. b declared war on the squirrels and black birds
and hung two new feeders out this past weekend.
They are quaranteed to keep them out and the songbirds in.
Of course the squirrels and blackbirds are welcome to the leftovers on the ground. b

tomboy

It's exactly one month before all wedding plans are put into action
when we take off for the coast of Florida.

Picture a beautiful white wedding dress on this tomboy.
How could she have been any different growing up in her brother's shadow?
Have to wonder how the years managed to slip away so quickly.
Yesterday I spent the day working on wedding this and that.
It took three people on six computers to work up a simple shower invite.
I can say two of the three people are technology challenged. b

incredible and edible

Gosh another winter-like spring day.
A few flakes coming down and thinking I may have to dig my winter coat back out?

These "incredible edible" eggs are getting me by these days...
eat them hard boiled, fried, scrambled, in salads or omelets.
Zero carbs!
I don't, however, think I would make it as a diabetic. b

salad food

These are making my salad days a lot better...

Supermarket tomatoes in March?
Well, they've come a long way in the last few years with hydroponics.
Fake tomatoes to go with my fake crabmeat
I couldn't eat a salad without a tomato, fake or real, could you? b

four-letter words

I think we all agree...
diet is a four-letter word.

Started this 17 day four-letter word today.
Two scrambled eggs and grapes for breakfast...
A salmon patty and apple for lunch,
(I had to fight the cats for the salmon patty).
I won't be drinking the 8-oz. of hot water with half a lemon in it every morning, ick.
I have exactly 17 days to the first wedding event for daughter knit and pearl.
If you don't hear from me here you'll know I went crazy.
Isn't the number 17 bad luck?   b

artists

I'm enjoying the new art I acquired over the weekend...

This one by Tressa Monet, isn't it pretty?
She was showing great use of pastels until she added the green.
She said it added depth to her painting.

This one is by Cecelia Picasso.
She said her dad likes Picasso and thought this painting resembles
his golf balls over the water.
It's called "Aggressive Golfer"  b

sushi and violet

After returning the gran-girlies yesterday I decided to treat myself
to some sushi at the large market where they live.
When I walked in there was a pretty display of African Violets near the door.

After purchasing two violets,
one for home and one for the office, I recalled why I don't have any.
When we moved to this house I lost my counter in front of a west window where I managed to keep one blooming year round. Nothings cheerier than a little pot of posies.
Maybe with a some rearranging I'll manage to keep these blooming. b

clean toes too

"Did you wash between your toes?"

This was last nights bathtub time. No one enjoys a bath more than these two.
Seeing them in the bath always reminds me of my grandmother
and the scrubbing she would give us as children.
A huge bar of harsh soap and she would just about scrub the skin off of us!
Cleanliness is next to Godliness, right?  b

little people

I'm digging out the books and toys for a visit from my favorite two little people.

They've been fighting colds and fevers for over a week
and are like all of us after a very long winter...
CRABBY!
A change of scenery will cheer them up
and if not...well this ol'granny has handled much bigger crabs, ha.

They love the story "The Three Billy Goats Gruff."
Grandma does a mean, fierce troll!
Some people would even say I'm a natural...b

Reuben

We're definitely not Irish...
but we do enjoy a good  Reuben sandwich.
Corn beef, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese, with Thousand Island dressing
grilled between two slices of rye bread.
Add a pickle and a few chips on the side and call it a meal...
an easy meal. I'm all about easy at meal time.   b

bluebirds

My spring fever had me digging out the instructions for this reversible project -
"egg to bluebird and a little nest, too"
from Susan B. Anderson's  itty bitty toys book.

I say what's more spring-like than an egg in a nest?
Or how how about a baby bird?

I would have loved these toys as a child.
The little bluebird is in the egg, turn inside out and the egg is in the bird.
I like using up my scrap yarn for these little projects.   b

33 years

Some days in your life are easy to remember and I remember March 14, 1978 clearly...

Our first born, a son, was born shortly after midnight,
only because the surgeon was slowed down by fog as thick as pea soup.
At 10 pounds, 6 ounces, the doctor told us to buy a grocery store, ha
Happy Birthday Son...
You've made the last 33 years happy ones for us. love mom

flopsy bunnies

What are you reading Mr. Bunny?

Why it's "The Tale Of The Flopsy Bunnies"
 by Beatrix Potter of course...

Mr. Bunny said it was scary when Mr. McGregor put all the little bunnies in his sack
to skin later for a new lining for Mrs. McGregor's old cloak.
It was a happy ending when Mrs. Tittlemouse nibbled a hole in the bottom corner of the sack
for the six little bunnies to make their escape. b

baby hats and posies

This baby crocheted hat is my new favorite yarn project.

It works up in just a few hours and is so cute with it's big flower.
I may have to make several more in different colors...
mint green, orange and yellow. b

Aunt Lydia

Aunt Lydia and I scored today with this extremely cute flannel.

Monkeys and moons, an odd combination but sweet.

Did I say sweet?

Little girls and their Tinkerbell's, sweet...b

sponsor break

And now for a word from our sponsor...

Do you remember hearing that?
I'm doing a little free advertising here for this
tasty and healthy oatmeal from McDonald's.
It really is very good with big chunks of apples, raisins and cranberries.
And if it's oatmeal it has to be healthy right?
Now I'll send them my advertising bill.    b

too much winter

What do you think?
Too much winter?

or homemade vanilla?
Got the large bottle in case I decided on both.    b

lifesaver

Listening to our weather forecast for the next few days made me think of these...

Yes! another heavy snowstorm on its way.
Anyone else need a lifesaver?   b

bashful

Oh! hello...
Birdie is very bashful, a real scaredy cat...
but she hopes you're having a purr-fect day.   b

beanie baby

This is such a sweet hat from a Brenda Green pattern.
It knit up easily and quickly. The flowers were new to me with challenging instructions but after two trips to the internet for help I found them easy to knit up.

Isn't it sweet on this baby?

This is the photo on the instructions, very enticing wouldn't you say? b

March

Happy March!

Hang in there...
Spring is just around the corner.   b
